Attendance

Cedars Park Primary School monitors the attendance of every child in the school and in partnership with the Education Welfare Officer so that each child can achieve their potential. We will work and support those children and their families who are not attending school without sufficient reason.

By law, all children of compulsory school age must receive a suitable full-time education.  Once your child is registered at school, you are legally responsible for making sure that they attend regularly. If your child fails to do so, you risk getting a penalty notice or being prosecuted. You also need to think about the negative impact upon the following:

- their learning

- their friendships

- their self-esteem and confidence.

Children who are persistently late or absent soon fall behind with their learning.  Children who are absent from school frequently develop large gaps in their learning which will impact on their progress and their ability to meet age related learning expectations. A child whose attendance drops to 90% each year will, over their time at primary school, have missed:

- one half day each week

- nearly four weeks every school year

- over one school year in a school career

If your child is going to be absent from school, you should contact the school office at the start of the day for each day of absence.  (01449 778230).  There is an answer machine available for when the office is closed.

If you child has been sick, they must remain at home for 48 hours.
